About

Hello! I’m Jennifer!

nutritional therapist, HOLISTIC HEALTH COACH, & pharmacist.

I have been working in healthcare as a pharmacist for the last 20 years. Throughout my career I have worked across various sectors including community, hospital &, GP practices and although I love elements of my job, I always felt there was something missing. I love educating people on their medications and medical conditions, and helping to reduce their medication burden and side effects where possible. This passion for helping others optimise their health led me to explore the world of lifestyle medicine and nutrition.

In 2019 I began to research alternative solutions for both my patients and attended a lifestyle medicine course in London. I left feeling truly inspired! I knew this was the right path for me and could see the huge impact it could make to peoples lives including my own.

Soon after this I enrolled with The College of Naturopathic Medicine to study naturopathic nutritional therapy and health coaching with The Institute of Integrative Nutrition a few months later and I haven’t looked back since.

I am passionate about sharing the techniques and knowledge which have had a huge impact on my life with you! By combining my pharmaceutical knowledge with a naturopathic, whole person approach I provide a unique service which bridges the gap between conventional and alternative approaches to healthcare.

These are a few of my favorite things…

  1. I love being in nature whether it’s mountain biking, paddle boarding, hiking or wild swimming, I’m here for it all!
  2. I’m a food fanatic! I’ve had a passion for food from a young age, so you won’t find any restrictive diets here! Nutritious food doesn’t have to be boring!
  3. I come from a family of itinerary makers and I love being organised. I’m a big fan of a plan and I am obsessed with Marie Kondo ~ there is magic in tidying up!
  4. Travel! Oh how I have missed it over the last couple of years. I have so many places still to tick off the list but my favourites so far have been skiing in Japan and backpacking in Vietnam!

➡️ Support for those on weight loss medications. ➡️ Support for those on weight loss medications.

Part 1.

As some of you may know as well as being a nutritional therapist, I am also a pharmacist and have been for the last 20 years.

I have seen a lot of change over this period of time, one of which is the considerable rise in the rate of prescribing of weight loss medications.

Whilst I know they can be an effective tool for some people, I also believe that it is important that they are part of a 360 approach.

It should not be a case of just receiving a prescription. You also need support in nutrition and lifestyle to minimise side effects, maintain overall health and set up a plan for treatment discontinuation.

This support should include:

🍎 Nutritional planning to avoid insufficiencies in key nutrients which can lead to side effects and potential longer term implications

🏃🏼‍♂️‍➡️ Advice on exercise and movement to support maintaining muscle and cardiovascular fitness

🧠 Mindset strategies covering emotional eating behaviours

👩‍⚕️ Knowledge on how the medication works and the physiological changes which may affect weight regain on stopping

If you are currently prescribed or considering stopping an injection for weight loss and would like support please get in touch via the link above or email upcycledhealth@gmail.com

Stay tuned for part 2 😊

Webinar series testimonial 👩‍💻 @triathlonscotland Webinar series testimonial 👩‍💻 @triathlonscotland

I had the pleasure of being invited to present a series of 3 webinars to the members of Triathlon Scotland.

I covered:

• Integrative fuelling and gut health for triathletes 🏊🏻

• Nutrition for women in triathlon at different life stages. Covering training and nutrition around your cycle, key nutrients both macro and micro, pregnancy, breastfeeding, perimenopause and menopause 🚴🏻‍♀️

• Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport: REDs 🏃‍♀️

Fantastic to receive such positive feedback and lovely to hear the members enjoyed the webinars as much as I did.

If your business or sports club are interested in organising a similar event please send me an email at upcycledhealth@gmail.com

Explorr Half Marathon completed 🥳 Not only that, Explorr Half Marathon completed 🥳

Not only that, but my first ever half marathon 😱

This is something I never thought I could achieve.

At first it was a belief that I couldn’t run 5km without stopping, then I thought I couldn’t run 10km without having an asthma attack, but somehow I found myself running a half marathon on Sunday.

My goal was to complete it in 2 and a half hours, but if I’m honest I just wanted to enjoy it and not get stressed about any particular time.

Crossing the finishing line I managed to hold it together (just) but it’s an emotional feeling when you accomplish something you never thought you’d achieve.

So what helped me to accomplish this goal?

~ the support of my friends and loved ones. Their constant positive messages and belief in me kept me going ♥️

~ consistency with my training and recovery 🧘🏼‍♀️

~ my nutrition and hydration strategy both on the day and beforehand 🥯

~ remembering to keep smiling and enjoy it 😁

~ the marshals on the day. In particular the Tellytubbies at 17 and 18km. Just what I needed 🤣

~ music. The playlist kept me motivated on the hills, although Kate Bush was not on there. #rookiemistake 🎶

~ the incredible views. Banchory is a stunning setting for a trail run. 🏃‍♀️

If you have a goal. Anything is possible. You just need to believe in yourself. ✨

Last week we took a trip to Wester Hardmuir fruit Last week we took a trip to Wester Hardmuir fruit farm near Nairn to do some berry picking. 🍓

It’s such a fun activity to do with children, but equally as an adult it brings back fond childhood memories of picking blackcurrants and raspberries in our garden.

We opted for strawberries, blackcurrants and gooseberries.

Strawberries are an obvious favourite but it’s nice to grab gooseberries to add diversity as it’s not something I often see in the Supermarkets.

Most of my clients will know that blackcurrants are one of the best sources of vitamin C. A key antioxidant which helps support our immune system, collagen production and the absorption of iron.

I am an advocate of adding to meals rather than always focusing on taking away and restriction.

Adding fresh, local, seasonal produce is always going to be a winner.

Where is your favourite place to shop locally for seasonal produce?
